Idris Nechirvan Barzani, visited Dr. Rashad Miran to congratulate him in person on becoming the first Kurd to receive the prestigious Pushkin Medal from the Russian Federation.
During the visit, Mr. Barzani praised this achievement as a great honor for all of Kurdistan, highlighting how Dr. Miran's lifelong dedication to research has brought recognition to Kurdish identity, history, and culture on the international stage.
The Pushkin Medal stands among the highest official state honors of the Russian Federation, awarded by the President of Russia upon distinguished citizens and foreigners who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to culture, science, arts, and literature.
Dr. Rashad Miran, is a renowned sociologist and expert in Kurdish anthropology, born in 1952 in Shaqlawa. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Baghdad, followed by a master’s and PhD in ethnography from Leningrad.
For 28 years (1993–2021), he lectured at the Sociology Department of the College of Arts, Salahaddin University in Erbil. He has authored more than 30 books, scientific studies, and translations, and is a founding member of the Kurdistan Sociologists Association. He previously served as deputy president of the Kurdish Academy.
