Winners of the 'Youth Volunteers Initiative' for 2022 were Announced

Iraq (August 25, 2022) - the winner groups of ‘Youth Volunteers Initiative 2022’ were announced, 24 groups across Iraq were selected to be funded by Rwanga Foundation to implement their Volunteer Projects in their cities. 

 

This year, 486 applications were applied to the project from 19 Governorates of Iraq. Different applications were received from each sector (Education: 131 applications, Youth: 145 applications, Environment: 127 applications, Vulnerable Groups: 83 applications).  24 best volunteer initiative ideas were selected to be the winners for this year.

 

The 24 volunteer groups were selected through an evaluation process which was done to choose the best initiatives. The evaluation committee consisted of:

1.       Dastan Qadir Abduallah – CEO at Women Empowerment Organization

2.       Abdulbasit Ahmed – Project Manager at Internews

3.       Talar Noore – Operation Director at Mediazan (Media Agency)

 

The 24 volunteer winner groups are:

·(Peace for the Sake of Peace) Project will be conducted by (Sports School for Development and Education Volunteer Group) of 6 volunteers in Al-Anbar.

This project is to strengthen educational institutions and involve them in promoting peace within the school community to spread the values ​​of societal tolerance and build community cohesion and peaceful coexistence for individuals. Teaching the teacher how to use modern social media that have become an urgent necessity in conveying information to students.

 

·(Raising Awareness Among Young People about the Dangers and Harms of Drugs) Project will be conducted by (Charity Workers Volunteer Group) of 30 volunteers in Al-Anbar.

This project is to increasing awareness of drug practices among young people (males - females) aged 15-45.

 

·(Fingerprint of Hope) Project will be conducted by (Al-Amal Volunteer Group) of 8 volunteers in Al-Qadisiyyah.

This project is to paint a school, and to put warning signs and drawings to make the students happy and increase their joy for the new school year.


·(Peace  Brings Us Together) Project will be conducted by (Al-Ruiya Volunteer Group) of 8 volunteers in Babylon.

This project is to empower the ability of 25 young men from Babil Governorate between the ages of 18-30 years in the skill of negotiation and solving social problems, empowering young people with the concepts of peacebuilding and the renunciation of violence, providing valuable information about the ideological presence and the plurality of religions in the Iraqi society historically and with percentages from the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, enabling young people to use peace-building skills in planning and implementing small projects on the ground, strengthening the spirit of citizenship among the Iraqi people through media publishing and distributing brochures, communicating the concepts of freedom of religion, belief, and respect.

 

·(A Decent Life) Project will be conducted by (Our New Iraq Gathering Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Baghdad.

The project works to integrate people with disabilities into society and enjoy their rights.

 

·(PIXEL Youth) Project will be conducted by (PIXEL Media Volunteer Group) of 6 volunteers in Baghdad.

The project aims to develop students’ technological capabilities and their use of social media and to create a successful media community.

 

·(Friendly Spaces for Autistic Children) Project will be conducted by (Athar Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Basra.

This project aims to provide psychosocial support to 80 autistic people to improve their learning outcomes and integrate them into society, creating a balance between the rights and duties of community members, developing a child with autism, and integrating them with society.

 

·(Our Mother School) Project will be conducted by (Saqshakhiyoon Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Dhi Qar.

This project is to provide basic renovation for ‘ Alsouq elementary school’ in Souq Al Sheikh city.

 

·(Beautification and Restoration of the Children's Hall in the Center of Blood Thalassemia) Project will be conducted by (Kudia Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Dhi Qar.

The project aims to provide basic restoration for the ‘Children’s Hall in the Center of Blood Thalassemeia’.

 

·(Let us Take Care of our River) Project will be conducted by (Shahraban Humanitarians Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Diyala.

The project is to develop a culture of afforestation and preserving rivers from pollution among Muqdadiyah’s young people.

 

·(The Beautification of the Historical Akre Neighborhoods) Project will be conducted by (Bu Jin Volunteer Group) of 7 volunteers in Duhok.

The project aims to renovate the very old and ancient neighborhoods in Akre city.

 

·(Power of 3R) Project will be conducted by (Better Kurdistan Volunteer Group) of 15 volunteers in Duhok.

The project aims to provide a clean environment, bringing improvements, having a bright future for a new and better generation and a good source of Economy.

                                               

·(Everybody's Safety) Project will be conducted by (Halo Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Erbil.

This project is to give the citizens awareness about the danger of the water and to identify the dangerous places for swimming.

                                               

·(Their Smile is Hope) Project will be conducted by (Hiwa Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Halabja.

This project is to provide basic renovation for ‘Ahmed Awa elementary school’ in Ahmed Awa village.

 

·(Borrowing Web) Project will be conducted by (Borrowing Web Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Karbala.
The project aims to provide a free paper lending library for readers in Karbala that can be easily accessed through a mobile application.


·(Protecting the Youth from the White Terror) Project will be conducted by (For Better Health Volunteer Group) of 12 volunteers in Kirkuk.

This project is to raise the awareness of young people about the harms of drugs, lowering the rate of suicide due to drugs and returning the spirit of working with groups among the youth.

 

·(Supporting the Next Digital Makers in Maysan) Project will be conducted by (CoderDojo Iraq Volunteer Group) of 8 volunteers in Maysan.

The project aims to provide access to technology to underprivileged communities.

 

·(Schools Empty of Drug Abusing) Project will be conducted by (Blue Hands Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Muthanna.

This project aims to create a drug-free school environment with methods and mechanisms for referring students who use drugs to obtain help from the centers and clinics specialized in the treatment of addiction available in the governorate.

 

·(Relief for the Vulnerable) Project will be conducted by (Athar Taib Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Al Najaf.

This project is to provide awareness needed for the vulnerable groups and helping the disabled people in the area.

 

·(People With Creativity) Project will be conducted by (Harmony Volunteer Group) of 7 volunteers in Nineveh.

This project aims to establishing a safe environment and a recreational space to develop the technical skills of children with special needs in the (Happy Childhood Institute).

 

·(Enhancing the Role of the Youth in Peace- Building in Salahaddin Governorate) Project will be conducted by (Hand in Hand to Build Iraq Volunteer Group) of 6 volunteers in Salahaddin.

This project is to achieve the goal of enhancing the role of boys and girls in building peace and reducing violence in the governorate.

 

·(Children are the Futuristic Environment keepers) Project will be conducted by (Children's Environmental Education Volunteer Group) of 7 volunteers in Salahaddin.

This project aims to creating and developing a generation of environmentalists.

 

·(We Love Animals) Project will be conducted by (Rangala Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Sulaimani.

The project aims to raise awareness of children through various paintings so as not to hurt animals.

 

·(For Her) Project will be conducted by (the Female Saints Volunteer Group) of 5 volunteers in Wasit.

The project aims to establish a mobile awareness clinic for raising awareness about women's rights.

 

Youth Volunteers Initiative is an annual project of the Rwanga Foundation with the aim of supporting young volunteers to come up with project proposals and participate in a competition to implement their projects for the best benefit of the public. The project asks the volunteer groups to apply their project proposals to get funds for their projects. This year 24 groups have been funded to implement projects in their community.
