Rwanga Foundation with the Iraqi Prime Minister

With an invitation by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and in the presence of 16 Iraqi organizations (members of the UN Economic and Social Council ECOSOC), issues related to the development of the work of non-governmental organizations in Iraq were discussed.

 

The meeting was held in his presidential office in Baghdad Governorate, addressed a variety of subjects under three main frameworks, including the working capacities of Iraqi NGOs on the local, regional, and international levels. Discuss and list the challenges that NGOs in Iraq are now facing. and developing strategies for government to use to support them in making their mission more attainable. His Excellency commended these organizations for their efforts to consolidate human rights principles in accordance with the principles of the Iraqi constitution, emphasizing the importance of protecting all civil rights of Iraqi citizens.

 

During the meeting, Rwanga Foundation was represented by the Foundation's Director of Programmes, Saman Omar, who talked about the Foundation's activities at the local and regional levels. He also explained the Foundation's vision and long-term goals related to sustainable development.

 

Rwanga Foundation is one of 24 Iraqi NGOs with Consultative Status on the UN Economic and Social Council ECOSOC.

 

The UN Economic and Social Council ECOSOC aims to unify efforts related to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Where governments, concerned institutions and civil society organizations participate in adapting their development goals to national contexts and integrating them into their policies and strategies to achieve the goals of the development plan.
