5,000 Trees were planted inside ‘University of Duhok’

Duhok, KRI (December 22, 2022) – Rwanga Foundation announces the planting of 5,000 trees under the 'Rwanga Forests' project inside the University of Duhok in Duhok Governorate. Which makes the overall planted trees 23,500.

 

Rwanga Foundation began to plant 5,000 additional Sabahbah trees. The project has planted an exact number of 5,000 trees inside Zakho University before which will make the total planted trees for Duhok governorate 10,000 trees, with the goal of contributing to providing a healthy environment for students, and an answer to the lack of rain, an increase in desertification areas and air pollution, and a lack of agricultural lands.

 

The announcement started with an opening speech by Mr.AbdulSalam Medeni (Chief Executive Director of Rwanga Foundation), and Prof. Dr. Dawd Atrushi (President of Duhok University) and was attended by Dr. Ali Tatar (Governor of Duhok) and many other entities. Following that, the guests kicked off the project by planting some of the trees in the designated locations inside the university.

 

The planting process was as bellow:

-          2,000 Trees in College of Languages

-          1,500 Trees in College of Medicine

-          750 Trees in College of Engineering

-          750 Trees in Botanical garden

 

Rwanga forests is a project that was designed to be implemented all over Iraq, starting from Mosul, it has already been implemented in different areas of  Mosul governorate including (Mosul Forests, Mosul University, and Northern Technical University) as well as Zakho University with an overall of 18,500 planted trees.

 

The Rwanga Forests project is a climate action project that will be executed in Iraq and KRI. Climate change is occurring as a result of excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere caused by the combustion of fossil fuels and fire explosions. It will carry out this project in many parts of the country over the course of several months and years. The project's goal is to train and prepare the community to plant a massive number of trees in the destroyed forests and ecosystems. It will also contribute significantly to carbon capture for climate change mitigation.
